TAQA submits 30 year decommissioning plan for Eider Topsides

Monday 23 December 2019

TAQA has submitted decommissioning plans for the Elder topsides. It is planned to remove the topsides which weigh 11,600 tonnes between 2023 and 2026 and return them to shore before potentially using them for reuse, recycling or disposal. Production stopped last year on the platform, currently the platform is helping production by providing power for the nearby Otter subsea field.

The platform could be used to aid the energy transition as potentially an offshore renewable energy generation station, a marine research facility, a training centre, a carbon capture and storage site in the future.
