DeepOcean Gears Up for Race Bank Job

Monday 10 October 2016

DeepOcean has completed the mobilization of the T3200 subsea trenching system onto the trenching support vessel Havila Phoenix.

During last week the 150te system was mobilized onto the vessel prior to its deployment on the Race Bank offshore wind farm off Blakeney Point on the North Norfolk coast, the company informed through social media.

The system will conduct trenching work at the Race Bank under the contract secured by DeepOcean from DONG Energy in October 2015.

To remind, in May this year DeepOcean awarded SMD a contract to upgrade the T3200 trenching vehicle with the delivery of a mechanical cutting boom and associated cable handling system.

SMD delivered an ultra-high torque, boom-cutting cassette for simultaneous mechanical and jet trenching, which enables the protection of bundled and un-bundled power cables in rock and other hard ground areas.

According to DeepOcean, the cutting boom is twice as powerful and delivers double the torque of any other comparable subsea trenching asset in the industry.

DeepOcean will undertake the offshore work at the wind farm during 2016/2017.

When operational, Race Bank will have a capacity of up to 580 megawatts (MW), providing enough green energy to power over 400,000 UK homes.
