Ivar Aasen Work for GM Deep Sea Mooring

Wednesday 28 September 2016

Norway’s Global Maritime Deep Sea Mooring has won a contract from compatriot Det Norske Oljeselskap for mooring work on two units on the Ivar Aasen field in the northern North Sea.

GM Deep Sea Mooring will secure Prosafe’s semi-submersible accommodation unit Safe Zephyrus as well as the ultra-harsh environment jack-up Maersk Interceptor on the field off Norway.

The company will supply mooring and pre-lay equipment, offshore personnel, mobilisation and demobilisation services and operational planning for the Prosafe flotel, while also mooring the Maersk Drilling jack-up.

The Ivar Aasen field lies west of the giant Johan Sverdrup oilfield and is estimated to hold 204 million barrels of oil equivalent. Production start-up is scheduled for December this year and field life could be up to 20 years, depending on oil prices and production trends.

Early last month Det Norske secured safety consent from authorities to use the Safe Zephyrus on the under-development field.

The unit will be deployed at the North Sea field to accommodate personnel for commissioning work ahead of start-up, scheduled in the fourth quarter.

Also last month Det Norske gained the safety nod from the authorities to use the Maersk Interceptor for production drilling work at Ivar Aasen.

The rig will drill three production wells in a water depth of 110 metres at the North Sea field, adding to those already drilled by another unit.

Drilling is scheduled to start in late November and expected to be completed by July 2017.

The XL Enhanced jack-up, which has previously been drilling exploration and appraisal wells in the area, is working for Det Norske under a $700 million firm five-year contract, with two one-year extension options, at a dayrate of $383,500.

The topsides of the Ivar Aasen platform were installed on the jacket at the field in July.
