OMV Takes Deepsea Bergen

Friday 21 April 2017

Odfjell Drilling has confirmed it has inked a charter with Austrian operator OMV for its veteran semi-submersible rig Deepsea Bergen for work off Norway.

The 1983-built unit will be used by OMV to drill a high-pressure/high-temperature well in its operated production licence 644 in the Norwegian Sea, making it the first probe to be drilled in the permit.

The contract, with an estimated firm duration of 100 days, also carries options for two further HPHT wells.

Work under the charter, which seals an earlier letter of intent, is set to kick off in the first quarter of 2018.

The semisub is presently working for Statoil off Norway until mid-2017 when it is due to start appraisal drilling for Faroe Petroleum at the Brasse discovery off the country.
